Vacancy - Business Development Manager, Foundry

A new Business Development & Sales Manager position has arisen in Silicon Sensing Systems, Ltd. to assist the company in growing its MEMS foundry business in North America and Europe.

Silicon Sensing is an established and successful high-tech MEMS sensor company with locations in the UK, Japan and USA.  Core business is the design, development and manufacture of precision MEMS gyroscopes and accelerometers for aerospace, industrial and commercial markets.  In addition to the manufacture and sales of its own MEMS inertial sensors Silicon Sensing also offers a service to MEMS industries by manufacturing other third-party customer MEMS devices using its unique foundry process capabilities.  This position is in relation to the MEMS foundry business.

The company has been successfully developing markets for its MEMS foundry service offering and has identified a requirement for a business development / MEMS foundry specialist to join an existing team and play a major role in achieving ambitious growth targets in North America and Europe. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Customer development and support:

  • Respond to customer enquiries for technical information, price and lead-time
  • Identify and develop new sales leads, prepare winning technical & commercial proposals and close major sales prospects
  • Visit existing and potential customers on a regular basis
  • Build a network of contacts throughout target customer organisations and build strong business relationships
  • Build an in-depth working knowledge of the company’s MEMS business strategy, MEMS process capability, targeted MEMS markets and competitors
  • Liaise closely with process engineering and project staff in Japan to align MEMS processing capabilities with customer current and future expectations

Assisting with market development activities:

  • Develop a sound market development plan
  • Arrange and attend trade shows and exhibitions
  • Organise productive marketing and sales campaigns
  • Contribute to the general brand awareness and promotion

 Market research activities:

  • Research market sectors and understand requirements
  • Analyse markets; e.g. size, location, trends, etc
  • Develop a working knowledge of relevant industry and competitor activity

 General duties:

  • Assist with business forecasting and planning
  • Collect the ‘Voice of the Customer’ and liaise with internal process engineering teams to ensure the foundry can respond to better meet customer expectations
  • Liaise with staff in the UK, US and Japan
  • Customer contact management using the CRM database

The successful candidate will be results driven, self-motivated and confident.  Ideally qualified to degree level, the candidate will be commercially astute and be able to demonstrate they have personally achieved major business development results within an international engineering environment, preferably in the MEMS foundry service sector.  He or she will report directly to the Silicon Sensing Business Development Manager in the UK.

Skills, Competencies and Experience 

  • Excellent people skills, good verbal and written communicator, at all organisational levels
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Experience of technical sales, ideally in a MEMS industry context
  • Experience and knowledge of MEMS foundry processing would be a distinct advantage
  • Strong customer focus
  • Results driven, self-motivated and energetic
  • Financial and commercial awareness
  • Willingness to travel and an ability to work under own initiative
